The history of the hotel

In 1867, a man named Gottfrid Ljunggren was born. He trained as a civil engineer. Gottfrid moved during a period in his life to Varberg where he worked as a civil engineer and architect during 1903-1914. As an architect, he is well known in Varberg, where he left his mark on parts of the city's buildings when he had the city's most beautiful buildings erected. Buildings such as Hotel Bergklinten (now Hotel Blanka), Hejllska villan, Thernellska house, Apelvikens coastal sanatorium and Villa Väring are just some of his famous buildings.

Hotel Blanka (then Hotel Bergklinten) was built to house gentlemen and there was a café on the hotel's entrance floor. Today you can still feel the atmosphere of the life that was lived in the early 20th century. How the rich gentry lived in the house and consumed their food in the house's beautiful café/dining room.

Today, the property is owned by Blanksvärd Varberg AB and the hotel is run by Hotell Blanka AB. The property's owner has decorated the hotel with inspiration from Sweden's Queen Blanka, who lived in Varberg in the 14th century.

Welcome to stay with us in a building of outstanding architecture, charmingly furnished rooms and proximity to everything the city has to offer.
